Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, this Caribbean coastal city is one of Colombia’s true gems. The shaded, cobbled streets are home to impressive Colonial buildings with majestic balconies and large stone squares which open out to reveal even larger stone churches. Here, the pace is slow and the weather is hot, making it hard not to relax into the swing of things! With white sand beaches a short boat-ride away at Playa Blanca, Cartagena is an ideal spot to learn Spanish whilst soaking up the flavours of the Caribbean coast.
The city has a wide section of open air cafes, innovative restaurants and some truly excellent spots to dance the night away. Its coastal position means you can easily take a weekend trip up the coast to Santa Marta and Tayrona National park where you can revise your newly learnt Spanish vocabulary from the comfort of a hammock!
